Buying my first house at age 19 was the start of
it all. The fascination of buying and selling real estate became a
big part of my life.
Five years later, while I was dating my then husband to be, I proclaimed
to him, "I found the house we weren't looking for!" He gave
me a quizzical look. After I explained to him that we could do a partnership
agreement, still curious, he listened on. Being a savvy investor himself,
he decided this was a risk he could be involved in. The property is
a beautiful home, with 120 feet of water frontage, on the largest
spring fed lake in Connecticut. One caveat, the house
was
on leased land. In addition, the land was in separate negotiations
as part of a large parcel sale with multiple buyers that we were
involved in at the same time. Being on leased land presented an
immediate problem. Banks would not lend money on leased land. We
had to convince his parents to let us utilize the equity in their
homestead to secure our loan. They agreed. Within a few months,
we purchased the land and were able to roll his parents equity back
out of the security position. Not bad negotiating at age 25! Although
this was an unusual real estate transaction, it did increase my
comfort level when presented with future properties with similar
caveats. Eventually we got married and still own our great home
on Lake Quassapaug some 20 years later. Finding great real estate
opportunities is a passion of mine.
Fast
forward to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. My mom was turning
reclusive during the winters of Connecticut; I suggested she consider
Hilton Head Island. A world traveler herself, she thought St. Augustine
would be a better fit, but agreed to check Hilton Head Island out.
As we crossed the bridge, she stated, "Paula, you can't describe
how beautiful this place is. I absolutely love it." She bought
her villa at Governors Harbor after 3 days of looking, and as the
saying goes, is living happily ever after.
Having mom on Hilton Head, and having my love for Hilton Head real
estate, I decided to get my real estate license in South Carolina.
At the time, there were over 1200 agents on an island that is 12
miles by 5 miles. That never concerned me. My attitude was and is,
if clients want to work with a highly ambitious individual that
will work hard at identifying properties that fit their needs, then
I will be the one for them.
This
attitude helped me become a top producer of
Sea Pines Real Estate Company, something I have repeatedly
accomplished since my first year with the company. Now I
am excited to be with Charter I Realty and Marketing, the
#1 company on Hilton Head Island. My office is located at
the Beach Market in Coligny at North Forest Beach.
Hilton Head Island has afforded my family many new
experiences, and we have all come to love life in the Low Country.
Life on Hilton Head Island is amazing.

Although, my son has decided not to be a Pro golfer,
his time with the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy was
fantastic and we highly recommend it. They have some of the best coaches
and Matt Cuccuaro's mental training sessions are invaluable for anyone
that participates in a competitive sport.

Hilton
Head Island, The grass is greener.....
My daughter decided to leave her beloved Connecticut high school
after her sophmore year. She was Class Treasurer, Varsity Ski
Team, Varsity Lacrosse, a lot to give up. Never the less, she
was intrigued with the idea of going to Hilton Head Island High
School. Shockingly, the transition was seamless. The teachers
are amazing; their dedication and knowledge of their curriculum
is superb.
My daughter Jillian is having a great year at Clemson University.

has made the transition to college an easy one for her. She is
